What is a ‘spiritual startup’? I believe that a new church start epitomizes a spiritual startup. It’s the core of what we are about at reachingvietnam. Our mission statement is to Glorify God by reaching all Vietnamese peoples with the Good News of Jesus Christ through the planting of indigenous rapidly multiplying churches.
In the midst of Jesus’ conversation with Nicodemus and just following the foundational verse 16, Jesus tells Nicodemus, “For God did not send His Son into the world that He might condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.” (John 3:17) Elsewhere throughout the New Testament it is explained that the church is the Body of Christ – the local physical expression of Jesus in our world today. Every time a new church is planted or emerges the Body of Christ is placed in that location. That’s more than just a physical location but rather the Body of Christ is placed within reach of the network of people and relationships touched by the people that come together to form that Body. It’s a spiritual startup. The startup of something new, something with the potential to save (via God’s grace) the people it touches. This is our goal.
Tech In Asia is a technology business news portal that routinely has articles about the technology business in Viet Nam. An article posted this week lists 10 reasons why Vietnam’s startup scene is the most aggressive in Southeast Asia. It lists a number of reasons to be optimistic about the future of technology business startups in Viet Nam. Our heart yearns for that same level of optimism for spiritual startups. Number five on TechInAsia’s list is that “Vietnamese people are inherently entrepreneurial”. Our prayer is that Believers in Viet Nam both existing and new will in the same way be inherently entrepreneurial – not only in the business sense but in spiritual startups. We pray that we will see the laborers rise up from within the harvest field of this country to start new churches, to plant new Bodies of Christ among their family and friends, in their neighborhoods, their schools, their workplaces. We pray for new churches to be planted among families, singles, young and old. We pray for new churches to be started that will in turn multiply and touch every person among the Vietnamese with the Good News of Jesus Christ. Please pray with us to that end.
