District 8 – People Along the Canal
Points of Prayer
- Rows of apartment blocks line parts of this district, filled with multiple generations of families ranging from blue collar as well as clerical and government service employees. Pray that the Gospel would take root in these apartments and multiply from block to block.
- This area also holds neighborhoods with strong Catholic traditions. Pray that the truth of the Gospel would speak to Catholic families and they would find justification through faith in Jesus Christ alone.
- Pray for students in the Saigon Technical University as well as other schools in this area.
- Pray for the people trapped by the spiritual strongholds represented by Chùa An Phú and Chùa Huệ Lâm.
Almost half a million people live in this elongated district near the urban center. It follows one of the smaller side rivers feeding into the Saigon River, consequently many bridges are present, and there are many small boats that can deliver and moor in the waters. District 8 is adjacent to Districts 5 and 6 where large markets flourish, and goods can easily be transported to the markets from these small boats.
Hidden alleys yield plentiful Vietnamese delicacies brought in from the sea. Many people flock to District 8 for sea snail dishes each evening along with scallops, oysters, crab, and clams at incredibly cheap prices.
Sea snail streets stay open to 3am serving night owls but featuring more on beer than the dishes. Karaoke bars and clubs are active at night too.
District 8 needs your prayers for the people are walking in darkness and have yet to see the Light of the World.
So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive His mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
