Go Vap District – People Striving for Something More
Points of Prayer
- Go Vap is primarily a residential area but there are a large number of temples and spiritual sites in this district, many bars and a high crime rate, there is also a large student population. Pray that the Gospel will be received in Go Vap and the people will turn from darkness to light.
- Pray for the students of the University of Industry among other schools in the district. UI has perhaps the largest number of students of any single campus in the city pray for a great work of God’s Spirit among them that will see many come to faith and new churches started.
- Pray for the people trapped by the spiritual strongholds represented by Chùa Châu An, Phù Châu Miếu, Tịnh Xá Ngọc Phương, Tu Viện Quảng Hương Gìa Lam.
Situated just outside of the center of the city, driving to Go Vap district can still take you up to 30-40 minutes. Businesses, markets, restaurants, and high-end shopping malls attract Vietnamese to live and work increasing the residential count. One university alone in this district has a student population of well over 150,000. Factories such as Mercedes Benz and Toyota also employ workers in this district.
During several times of war and conflict, numerous Catholic families moved from the north to the south. Many of these settled into what is now Go Vap district accounting for the large number of Catholic churches. In 1965 the Catholic church granted Vietnamese Catholics permission to continue to venerate their ancestors. God will not share worship with any other. With a larger population of Catholics alongside Buddhists within the district, there is a great need for prayer.
