District 12 – People on the Urban Fringe
Points of Prayer
- District 12 is home to the Quang Trung Software City as well as FPT University and other schools that focus on technology. The technology sector is a major focus of the city’s plans for economic development – pray that spiritual development would be a greater priority of the people living here as they find faith in Jesus Christ alone.
- Pray for laborers to rise up from among the young professionals of this district and throughout the city that they would not be ashamed of the Gospel but rather proclaim it boldly to their co-workers, friends and family.
- Pray for the people trapped by the spiritual strongholds represented by Chùa Tịnh Quang, Chùa Tường Quang, Chùa Vĩnh Phước, and Miếu Bà Chúa Xứ.
Headed north from the city center, District 12 is a crescent-shaped area with less of a tightly packed urban feel but still densely populated with people. Living in the city center means the cost of living is higher, while living further from the center, rents and food costs are cheaper. More of a local Vietnam feel that has not been influenced by the global world, there are no Starbucks much less a co-working space in District 12. Families starting their day, headed with children going to school, and adults to work driving motorbikes or taking the bus to get where they need to be.
This district also concentrates on software development, as economic incentives are in place for new industries to develop. For relaxation several parks are adjacent to one of the small tributaries off of the Saigon river where Vietnamese can enjoy open spaces.
With two Buddhist monasteries serving thousands and several pagodas in this district, darkness pervades, and the Light of God needs to shine.
Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.
