Hoc Mon District – People Living the Simple Life
Points of Prayer
- Historically very swampy, this district was also known for growing taro root. It later become known as the center for much anti-colonial sentiment and was the place of execution by French firing squad of Phan Đăng Lưu, Nguyễn Thị Minh Khai, Võ Văn Tần and Nguyễn Văn Cừ.
- Pray for local Believers to take up the ministry of reconciliation that has been given to them and share the Gospel with everyone in this district – pray for new Believers, obedient disciples, and new multiplying churches.
- Pray for the people trapped by the spiritual strongholds represented by Chùa Hoằng Pháp among other spiritual sites in the district.
Hoc Mon District is located between District 12 and Cu Chi District, northwest of the city center. Going further out from the urban center, it is less tightly packed, but busy because of the large number of trucks bringing produce, lumber, and metal goods into the city. Hoc Mon District is often thought of as the gateway district.
Open spaces in this district offers opportunities for kite-flying among families and children in-between rice fields. The simple life can be seen everyday.
Individuals, families, and average blue-collar workers live in Hoc Mon District. The struggles of daily life with hopes of getting ahead loom in the dreams of Vietnamese living in Hoc Mon District as many pagodas and temples offer their altars for something imitation. Pray for Vietnamese who live in Hoc Mon District.
And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to Himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to Him.
