HO CHI MINH CITY, VIETNAM (HOE-chee-men) – “Ask the LORD for rain in the season of spring rain. The LORD makes the rain clouds, and He will give them showers of rain and crops in the field for everyone. For the idols speak falsehood, and the diviners see illusions; they relate empty dreams and offer empty comfort. Therefore the people wander like sheep; they suffer affliction because there is no shepherd” (Zechariah 10:1-2, HCSB). It’s moving into the heavy part of the six-month rainy season in Ho Chi Minh City (more than 12 inches of rain per month), so there’s no need for you to pray for more rain. But the rest of these words from Zechariah are spot on. The people of this city are truly lost without any shepherd to guide them. At least 98 percent of the people are looking for hope in the false idols to which they are sacrificing. It breaks the heart of believers there. Does it break yours? Will you earnestly pray with them for the people of this city? Pray that they will see the falsehood, the lies, the illusions of such worship and turn to the only One who can give them salvation-our Lord Jesus Christ. Pray that the believers in this city will boldly proclaim the Gospel to those around them.
