Traveling through Hanoi has a different feel than other parts of the country. There is history there both from the Vietnam War as well as from that past 1,000 or so years. The presence of the government felt everywhere in the country is perhaps even more noticeable here. The government and the leadership of Viet Nam deserves our respect and even our prayers. That’s Scripture. The government of Viet Nam has made tremendous strides in developing the company and improving the lives of much of the population especially over the past 20 or so years. More work is needed and there are still areas that are troublesome. Persecution against Christianity is very real in Viet Nam and some responsibility for that must rest with the central government while other persecution is cultural or localized. Above all, we must remember that prayer is our most strategic and powerful response.
Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and by His vast strength. Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the tactics of the Devil. For our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world powers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens. Ephesians 6:10-12
Journey Prayers – Week 11
Praying for the government of Viet Nam
- Pray for the current leadership of Viet Nam that they might rule wisely and in keeping with the mandate given to them by God as all authority comes from Him. Pray specifically for:
President: Truong Tan Sang
Secretary-general of the Communist Party: Nguyen Phu Trong
Prime minister: Nguyen Tan Dung
and the 500 member National Assembly (parliament) - Pray for Believers among the government, many of whom do not reveal their faith for fear of reprisal. Officially the government of Viet Nam is atheist and government or party employees cannot openly espouse a structured religion freely.
- Pray for Believers outside the government to be bold in sharing their faith with government workers and party members of all levels. Pray that Believers will be compassionate and loving to government workers and in this way point more government workers to God.
