How do you end months of traveling around Viet Nam? This country that I scarcely knew before arriving that now is so much a part of me. I’ve done lot’s of traveling on this trip in all types of vehicles. I’ve been up and down the country from south to north and back. Benediction seems to be the most fitting sentiment at this point. Not that this is the end – far from it. But a marking point of finishing this trip. Our prayers for Viet Nam must go on however. Millions upon millions of lost are greatly in need of our prayers. And beyond prayers, our action, our evangelism, our going, our engagement, our investment to reach the peoples of Viet Nam with the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Journey Prayers – Week 16
Praying for the peoples of Viet Nam
- Pray for laborers. This has been a common refrain from us but that’s because it is so important. It is precisely what Jesus told us to pray for – laborers to the harvest field. Some of those laborers undoubtedly are from within the Vietnamese peoples themselves. Pray that they be led to Christ and sent on mission among their own people. Some of those laborers are also undoubtedly called from outside Viet Nam. Maybe you are one of them. Pray that God would send laborers and ask Him if you are to be one sent.
- Pray for partners. We are praying for God to raise up churches and Bible study groups, discipleship groups who will make a commitment to partner in prayer for specific people groups, specific cities, or specific population segments within cities. Partnering in prayer is the first step and being open to how God leads beyond this. Pray that churches will make commitments to pray for such areas.
- Pray for multiplying disciples and multiplying churches. Pray that existing Believers within Viet Nam would catch a new or renewed vision for multiplying themselves in others. Pray for the multiplication of disciples that would go beyond traditional programs or structures and truly be led by the Holy Spirit reaching every segment of society. Pray that churches would multiply themselves in the planting of new churches and the sending of Believers out to plant new churches.
- Pray for Christmas themed evangelism efforts going on right now. Christmas is an increasingly popular holiday in Viet Nam especially among young people and urban populations. But the holiday generally is simply seen as a Western (or American) holiday with little to no understanding of the reason for the season. Pray for Believers who are actively working to use this holiday momentum to introduce the Christ of Christmas to their family and friends.
