“If I become a follower of Jesus, who will I be?” Hieu* is struggling with his identity. As he has learned more and more about the gospel, he believes it is true. But Hieu doesn’t know what his life will look like once he makes that decision to follow Christ. His family and friends all follow the traditional beliefs, going to the Buddhist temple occasionally and making offerings to his ancestors and the spirits. Other than the person who shared the gospel with him, Hieu doesn’t know any other believers. He’s trying to figure out if he can be a follower of Jesus and still be Vietnamese. This struggle with the significant identity change that comes with accepting Christ is a common one in Ho Chi Minh City. Please pray for Hieu and many others like him to have the faith they need to commit their lives to Jesus Christ. Pray that Hieu will have the true testimony of being born again, still a part of his culture, and yet with a completely new identity of being grounded in Jesus Christ. (*name changed)
