On the market sidewalk, sellers ready their goods for buyers to purchase to take home and care for their families. Care and love for families are deeply rooted in Vietnam. To sacrifice for children in their upbringing or honor fathers and mothers takes precedence in many decisions of daily life.
Yet, Jesus says in Matthew 10:37-39: โIf you love your father or mother more than you love me, you are not worthy of being mine; or if you love your son or daughter more than me, you are not worthy of being mine. If you refuse to take up your cross and follow me, you are not worthy of being mine. If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for me, you will find it.โ
Jesus asks for our love for Him to be far greater than family, to give Him full priority. Pray for Vietnamese who want to follow Jesus but the weight of obeying their parents not to believe turns them away. Our gracious God waits patiently, ask Him to marvelously call out in love and Vietnamese respond.
