The Vietnamese people have a great deal of love and respect for the late Ho Chi Minh, founder of their country. This location includes a museum dedicated to ‘Uncle Ho’ as he is referred to by the people. This is also the spot where Ho Chi Minh departed Viet Nam in 1911 for his travels in Europe and Asia prior to returning and leading revolution in Viet Nam.
But for the Vietnamese, this goes beyond simply revering a historical figure to that of worshipping and praying to his spirit. As with all of ancestor worship in Viet Nam, this is seen as a means to obtain favor, blessing, strength or luck for daily life and problems small to large.
On the day we went we spoke to three young people visiting. They told us of how people came to pray to the spirit of Ho Chi Minh and offer incense to him. Many came to pray for success or blessings in their life. We prayed that the people coming to this museum would be confronted with the truth that every good gift comes from God alone. We prayed that the students we met would learn more of Jesus Christ and turn to Him as Lord and Savior. Please pray with us that the people of the city would not seek salvation through a man but through God alone.
