We spoke with a man at this temple who seemed frustrated or even angry when we told him we were Christians. He told us that people come here to pray to their ancestors and to worship Buddha. One of the idols here was described to us as the Buddha who gets people out of Hell. This Buddha is supposed to also be the one that teaches people to do good works. We had never seen this particular idol or had one described to us that way before. He told us that when someone has a family member who dies the people will come here and pray to this Buddha to relieve the suffering of their family member in Hell.
God, You alone can save people from Hell and bring them into relationship with You. You alone can equip and enable people to do good works. No matter how much good we do, we are still not good enough. We need Your grace God. We need Your righteousness. We need Your salvation. God I pray for the monks who serve at this temple. Open their eyes to see their need for You. I pray for the people who have been blinded by the teachings of Buddhism and come to this temple. Help them to see the light of Your salvation God. Please send Your workers to this neighborhood that the people might know of You.
