We arrived at this temple mid-afternoon and all of the monks were resting so we were the only ones there. In the room we went to was a large picture of a dead monk that people would pray to, so it seemed almost like an ancestor hall.
We just sat on the temple floor in front of the picture and prayed and read Scripture. We read from Jeremiah 10 and prayed that the people would see that God is Creator and that idols are merely created things. We prayed that the people who come to this temple would see that God alone is worthy of worship. Please join us in praying for the monks and people who worship at this temple. Please pray for the neighborhood surrounding it in District 6 that the Gospel would be shared abundantly there.
Hear the word that the LORD has spoken to you, house of Israel. This is what the LORD says: Do not learn the way of the nations or be terrified by signs in the heavens, although the nations are terrified by them, for the customs of the peoples are worthless. Someone cuts down a tree from the forest; it is worked by the hands of a craftsman with a chisel. He decorates it with silver and gold. It is fastened with hammer and nails, so it won’t totter. Like scarecrows in a cucumber patch, their idols cannot speak. They must be carried because they cannot walk. Do not fear them for they can do no harm—and they cannot do any good. LORD, THERE IS NO ONE LIKE YOU. You are great; Your name is great in power. Who should not fear You, King of the nations? It is what You deserve. For among all the wise people of the nations and among all their kingdoms, there is no one like You. Jeremiah 10:1-7
