   The Binh Khanh family lived in this area on the outskirts of what is now the city since the middle of the 1700’s. This is a family ancestor hall that over the years gained more and more importance to the immediate area. People come here to worship their ancestors and particularly to pray to those who settled this area or did courageous deeds in the past. They come to pray for health or money or blessings of every kind. We spoke to two men inside the ancestor hall who told us how the place still served as somewhat of a community center at times complete with a stage where they put on cultural performances at holidays and death anniversaries. One of the men who served as a caretaker emphasized strongly that he must remain at the ancestor hall and that if he didn’t maybe no one would come there to worship. Outside the hall we stopped to talk with a young man for some time and were able to share the Gospel with him and leave him and the two caretakers with a Gospel tract.

   I prayed that the people of this neighborhood would not look to their ancestors who settled the area but would look to Almighty Creator God who created the heavens and the earth – not just this one spot but all of it. I prayed that the men who received Gospel tracts and especially the young man who we shared with more would read them thoroughly. I prayed that the Holy Spirit would not let them rest but cause them to continue to wrestle with the truth they read and so turn their lives over to Christ. I pray that the older caretaker would be released from his sense of obligation to the ancestor hall but would instead devote his life to Jesus Christ. I prayed that God would send more people to come and share the Gospel in this neighborhood which looks very poor and has many needs.
