   Down a small alley we walked to find this really elaborate temple or ancestor hall. We spoke with a 90 year old man who had helped to design the ancestor temple here. The temple is for those who worship, burn incense and give sacrifices to a former general and his warrior companions and a dead king of historical Vietnam. There were many decorations and many animals shown in idols or pictures that were an important part of the worship here. The man told us that “whoever finds or conquers new land” (like a hero) is someone who deserved to be worshipped. He told us that people will come to the ancestor hall here and confess their sins to an idol of a tiger. He also told us that the spirit of the stork will take the spirits of those worthy to heaven when they die.

   It was the kind of place that you might not find if you weren’t looking for it. But here it is and it is a place of darkness, of lostness, one of so many in the city. My heart ached for this old man who has spent so many years placing his faith and trust in dead heroes. God will you have mercy on him? Will you bring someone that can be used of the Holy Spirit to break through years of believing a lie to understand the truth of the Gospel? God please bless this man and his family. Bless the people who come to this ancestor hall and show them the path to righteousness. Show them the way of salvation through Jesus Christ.

   A king is not saved by a large army; a warrior will not be delivered by great strength. The horse is a false hope for safety; it provides no escape by its great power. Now the eye of the LORD is on those who fear Him—those who depend on His faithful love to deliver them from death and to keep them alive in famine. We wait for the LORD; He is our help and shield.
