We stopped at this idol shop along the highway that runs north and east out of Ho Chi Minh City and spoke with the lady working at the shop. There is a very small building with some smaller idols inside but mostly the idols are outside. I wondered if they thought the gods in the idols minded being outside in all kinds of weather? The idols here are all carved out of stone. There were idols of many different gods, though most were different representations of Buddha and many idols of the goddess of mercy, Quan The Am. You can also find a number of statues of Mary at this shop which look much like the idols of Quan The Am. The lady at the shop told us that people buy the idols here for their home or business. She tried to encourage us to purchase an idol for ourselves letting us know that she can ship idols to the States. She told us that the spirit of the idol comes Some of the idols here were very large maybe more than 15 feet tall. The larger idols sold for several thousand dollars.
I prayed that God would open the eyes of the lady working in this shop to see that God alone is worthy of worship. I pray that God would cause people to turn from these idols so that no more will be purchased here. I pray that God’s righteousness would shine for all the people of this city so that He will be glorified and that they would turn from their wicked ways and place their faith in Him. Lord Jesus please bring people to this city to show them the truth of Your salvation.
Do not have other gods besides Me. Do not make an idol for yourself, whether in the shape of anything in the heavens above or on the earth below or in the waters under the earth. You must not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the fathers’ sin, to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing faithful love to a thousand generations of those who love Me and keep My commands.
