When we visited this small temple off a busy street in the Chinatown area we spoke to a lady, a volunteer who worked there. She told us that some tourists come to this temple because it is well known but that most people who come here were coming to worship and pray. She told us that this temple was built in the early 1800’s by the Chinese immigrants from the area of Hainan. They built the temple and dedicated it to Thien Hau, the goddess of the sea to express their appreciation for her protection to them in making the journey to Viet Nam. There is a high school next door to the temple with many high school students about the temple as we visited. Many people come to the temple to pray to the goddess as well as prayers said to or for their deceased family members.
I really felt weighted down when we visited this temple. I don’t know how to explain it other than a spiritual darkness that was oppressive to me. I prayed the name of Jesus as we walked through the temple. I prayed that the people who come here would see their need for God and know that He is not found in idols. I prayed for the high school students that every day are likewise oppressed by the images of this temple. God please free their hearts, open their eyes. Please God send laborers to share with these students and to shine Your light to this neighborhood.

From KBH
God had a plan for us the morning we stopped by this temple. It wasn’t on the list of places we were going to visit but as we went by we decided to stop in. While we were there we met a young girl, B, who was 25 years old. We had a great conversation with her and were able to share the Gospel with her. She had heard the name of Jesus but knew nothing about Him and had never heard before what He has done to offer salvation.
I prayed for B and the people to have softened hearts to the Gospel. So many seem to have very hard hearts and not open to hearing about Jesus. I prayed especially for B to have more opportunities to hear from Christians and that God would call her into a relationship with Him.
At this temple they were sacrificing and burning incense to the goddess. There were many vendors with items to sell for worship and to burn in sacrifice to the spirits.
