   When we visited this spot where they carve large idols from stone, I was really burdened for the workers there. I talked with one young man who seemed only a young teenager and yet he said he had already worked for several years as a helper to the many sculpting the idols. They expressed belief in the idols but maybe I also saw in their eyes that after working so intimately with the idols, using power tools and hammers and chisels to break away parts of the stone, they weren’t really sure how a god could reside in the rock. The standard answer was still given to say that once the idol is finished and people start to pray to it then the spirit will enter it.

   I prayed for the two men carving these idols that God would open their hearts to know that He does exist but that He does not live in lifeless stone. I prayed that the men working here would be able to find other jobs that would take them to a new place where they might hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

   What use is a carved idol after its craftsman carves it? It is only a cast image, a teacher of lies. For the one who crafts its shape trusts in it and makes idols that cannot speak. Habakkuk 2:18
