This temple is dedicated to the “Jade Emperor” who is the highest deity in the Taoist pantheon although you will also find a number of Buddhist entities and elements of ancestor worship here. The temple was built in the early 1900’s by Chinese immigrants to Viet Nam.
When we visited I was particularly moved at the thought of God’s displeasure with over 100 years of incense and worship going to someone or something other than Him. The people come to this temple praying for and seeking long life or financial success, really they are just seeking to fill the emptiness that is in them.
Father God, show your mercy to the people that come to this temple and call out those who would share the Gospel to them. Let your Holy Name be glorified in this place and the people to turn from idols to the salvation found only in your Grace.

We spoke with a man at the temple who told us about many of the practices of the people here. Many couples come to this temple to pray for a baby when they are infertile. Others often come here to pray for money or because they feel they have had some bad luck which they want to overcome. Some come to pray for protection against evil spirits. One common practice at this temple is for people to purchase a turtle and write a name on its back. The monks will then release the turtle and pray for the name. This temple seemed especially dark to us. Even the upkeep of the temple seemed less than others but more than that this temple seemed very spiritually dark.
Just seeing the people seeking after everything but God brought sadness to my heart. God please replace the fears of these people with an acknowledgement of You.
Our hearts hurt for the couples who were infertile who came here to pray. God please bless these couples in Your will that they might be able to have children and know that the children come from You and no other god. Bless them to find joy in You God.
