This is a floating temple or a floating ancestor hall and so it was very different than many of the places we have visited. We spoke to two ladies, an aunt and her niece who had come to this temple to pray for success in a new business they were starting. They told us that this temple was especially important because it was a place to worship the “river spirit” who they said was the most powerful. We learned that the temple here was very old and it was perhaps started initially as a place to sacrifice at the grave of a fisherman who had died on the river at this spot. Now the temple has many different kinds of idols to many gods and a place for worshipping ancestors. There are many fortune tellers that also come to this temple. One of the common practices at this temple includes purchasing birds with the purpose of releasing the bird which is supposed to give blessings to the person releasing the bird.
We prayed for the two ladies we met that God might speak into their hearts and show them that He is the one in control of their lives. We prayed that these ladies and many others who come to visit this temple would know that God is more powerful than any idol or spirit they would worship.
God please let your name be known in this place. Please let the people who come to this temple to be dissatisfied in their search for money and business success. Help them to turn to you as the source of every blessing.
This is why I tell you: Don’t worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Isn’t life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the sky: they don’t sow or reap or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you worth more than they? Can any of you add a single cubit to his height by worrying? And why do you worry about clothes? Learn how the wildflowers of the field grow: they don’t labor or spin thread. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was adorned like one of these! If that’s how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and thrown into the furnace tomorrow, won’t He do much more for you—you of little faith? Matthew 6:25-30
