Approximately 8% of the population in Vietnam considers themselves Catholic, and most likely, if you see a nativity in Vietnam it is because of Catholic tradition. However, there is a strong influence of syncretism, the blending of beliefs here. Animism and the belief in good and bad spirits is pervasive. Ancestors—parents, grandparents and going 3-generations back—are worshiped, prayed to, and given offerings for both Catholic and non-Catholics.
Pray for all Vietnamese to seek out God, to read His Word themselves and learn what God says. Pray especially for those who have Christian traditions and ask God to bring them understanding of the Scripture they read. Ask God to make Himself known as a jealous God desiring a relationship through Jesus’ salvation, today.
