“I’m a Christian now!” Linh* exclaimed to her friend Ngoc*.
The close group of friends that Ngoc and Linh were a part of did many things together. While each was independent in their own way, Ngoc was still pretty surprised to hear of Linh becoming a Christian. She wasn’t even sure she knew what it meant to be a Christian – and now one of her best friends was one?
In the weeks that followed, Linh began to share with Ngoc and her other friends. Initially perplexed, Ngoc soon became curious and eventually interested in knowing more herself about this Savior of which Linh kept speaking. And so Linh shared, starting with how she herself came to believe in Jesus, continuing with the things she was learning from the Bible and how she was being discipled. Linh also gave Ngoc a Bible and showed her some places to begin reading. Soon, Ngoc confided with Linh that she too wanted to follow Jesus. The two prayed and were excited about this together.
Since that initial expression of wanting to follow Christ however, Ngoc has seemed indifferent toward Christ. Eventually she told Linh that while she still believed in God, she didn’t want to continue to have such spiritual conversations with her friend. “When I want to talk about spiritual things, I will let you know” was the way Ngoc put it.
You can imagine the sadness this brings to Linh, herself a new Believer. But God has encouraged her as she continues to pray for Ngoc. Linh continues to share with Ngoc, as with her other friends, what God is doing in her life. Her prayer is that God will continue working in Ngoc’s heart to confirm her initial steps toward Him.
Please pray with us for Ngoc that she will be convinced of her need to place her life totally and completely in the hands of her loving Savior, Jesus Christ.
Pray that God will answer the questions or objections that have worked into Ngoc’s heart and mind since initially desiring to follow Christ. Pray that God will protect the seed that has been planted in her life.
Pray that God will grant Linh the wisdom in how to share with Ngoc without pushing her away. Pray that God continues to embolden Linh as she shares with all of her friends and family.
Consider the sower who went out to sow. As he was sowing, some seeds fell along the path, and the birds came and ate them up. Others fell on rocky ground, where there wasn’t much soil, and they sprang up quickly since the soil wasn’t deep. But when the sun came up they were scorched, and since they had no root, they withered. Others fell among thorns, and the thorns came up and choked them. Still others fell on good ground, and produced a crop: some 100, some 60, and some 30 times what was sown. Anyone who has ears should listen!
