Happy New Year 2014! While the Western New Year is not as important to the peoples of Viet Nam as the Lunar New Year (Tet) it is still celebrated to some extent. We have compiled a list of the normal holidays and anniversary as observed in Viet Nam and are posting them here. The most important Vietnamese holiday is Tet and perhaps followed by the Mid-Autumn holiday. Also listed on the calendar here are the 1st and 15th days according to the lunar calendar each month. For many Vietnamese these are special days for spiritual offerings and prayers. For those that follow the lunar calendar, 2014 has two “9th months” in the year. Periodically the lunar calendar will repeat a month in this way so as to stay closer aligned to the solar calendar.
